Took this photo a month back while doing tracking tunnel work for DOC in the Hawdon Valley. A group of three fledglings flew over and landed in the scrub next to the track. All were unbanded.
On the same trip sighted cat poos on our lines and around Hawdon Bush at the road end which is a worry. Saliva tests from the remains of an adult female (Mountain Daisy) found on the other side of the valley indicated that it was a cat that had killed it. This is a real concern and we now believe that cats could be responsible for killing another two females in the valley within the last 8 months.
